Korg's experience of producing music workstation began with the ubiquitous M1, and the M3-M is a logical outcome of twenty years of research and development. It draws on several high-end technologies, namely the KARMA and OASYS systems, and includes comprehensive control, luscious sounds, a full featured sampler and touch screen technology.

Many musicians have too many keyboards already, or want to use a favorite controller, but still want access to the sounds and functionality of the M3 keyboards. Understanding this, Korg provides all of the functionality of the keyboard workstations, minus the keys, modulation wheel and ribbon controller, in module form.
