That's because Samson gave this little microphone two different pickup patterns - one cardioid and one omnidirectional - so you can adjust it to suit whatever you're recording. Flip it into cardioid mode when you're recording your voice, acoustic guitar, or other close-miked instruments - this pickup pattern is tightly focused. Then, when you want to capture the whole room for podcasting sound effects, or a jam with a few friends, you can flip it into omnidirectional mode - which records from all directions.
